Materials:
Worsted Weight Yarn, Red
Worsted Weight Yarn, Light Green
Worsted Weight Yarn, Dark Green
Worsted Weight Yarn, Black
Crochet hook, Size F
Finishing Materials:
Tapestry needle
Magnets
Glue
Finished Size: 5 1/2" x 2 1/2"
Gauge: Not important to over all size.
Watermelon: (Using Red)
Rnd 1) Ch 4; 17 dc in 4th ch from hook; join with a slip st to 4th ch of beg ch 4: 18 dc.
Rnd 2) Ch 3, (counts as first dc, now and throughout), dc in same st; * 2 dc in next dc; repeat from * around; join with a slip st to first dc: 36 dc.
Rnd 3) Ch 3, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc; * dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc; repeat from * around. Fasten off, secure ends: 48 dc.
Inner Rind: (Using Light Green)
Attach yarn to any dc on round 3; Ch 1, sc in same st, sc in next 2 dc, 2 sc in next dc; * sc in next 3 dc, 2 sc in next dc; repeat from * around; join with a slip st in first sc. Fasten off, secure ends: 50 sc.
Seeds: (Using black)
Thread a tapestry needle with a length of black yarn and embroider Lazy Daisy stitches randomly over one half of right side of the fridge wedge. Secure ends by weaving through the melon.
Lazy Daisy Stitches:
Bring needle up through fridgie from back to front of work at point A. Insert needle almost back into the same hole at point A, and exit at point B, approx. 1/4" from point A; hold yarn forward and under needle point, then pull needle through work holding yarn in place until stitch is in place. Insert hook back into fridige at point C, to secure the end of the yarn and hold stitch in place, (just on the other side of point B).
Outer Rind: (Using Dark Green)
Folding watermelon in half, (seeds will be on front half), right sides facing out, attach yarn to end, through both corresponding sc on edge; Ch 1, sc in same st; * sc in next sc, (through both sides of melon) to close edges; repeat from * across. Fasten off, secure ends.
Finishing:
