 | Sew this crocheted flower applique to other items as a decorative accent. You could make the flower with either yarn or with thread (adjust hook size used accordingly).
I rewrote the antique directions for this pattern, so that it would be in today's crochet pattern terminology and easier to follow. Below, you will see the antique directions given first, for comparison, with my rewritten directions following.

If you'd like to see how it was to crochet from patterns that the crocheters in the early 1900's had to work from, you may like to try crocheting this flower from the antique directions first, then crochet from the rewritten directions, after that. Of course, you can skip right to the modern directions, if you would rather.
For Comparison, This is what the antique directions said (exactly as written and in its entirety) - -
Antique Directions: Ch 10, form ring ch 6 - 5 tr. tr (thread over hook 4 times) in ring, ch 6, 1 tight sl st in ring. Ch 6. Repeat this petal once more. Then ch 11, 1 sl st in second st from hook. 1 sc, 2 dc, 2 dt, 2 dc in 7 sts, ch 3, 1 sl st in ring. Chain 12 instead of 11 for next petal. Work same way only 3 dt instead of 2 dt, ch 3, 1 sl st in ring. Then ch 22, 1 picot - that is - 1 sl st in 5th st from hook, 5 picots each worked in sl st of one before, then 14 sl sts in 14 stitches, ch 3, 1 sl st in ring - this will form the long ends of the flower. Repeat and then work third and fourth petal and close ring. - - End of antique directions.

Triple tr = Yarn around hook 4 times.
Double Treble (dtr) = Yarn around hook 3 times.

First Petal: Ch 6, 5 triple tr in ring, ch 6, sl st in ring.
Second Petal: Repeat instructions for first petal.
Third Petal: Ch 11, sl st in 2nd chain from hook, sc in next ch, dc in ea of next 2 chains, dtr in ea of next 2 chains, dc in ea of next 2 chains, ch 3, sl st in ring.
Fourth Petal: Ch 12, sl st in 2nd chain from hook, sc in next ch, dc in ea of next 2 chains, dtr in ea of next 3 chains, dc in ea of next 2 chains, ch 3, sl st in ring.
Long End Of Flower: Ch 22. Sl st in 5th ch from hook. (ch 5, sl st in same sl st as before) 5 times. Now working along the ch-22: sl st in ea of next 14 chains. Ch 3, sl st in ring.
Next Long End Of Flower: Repeat instructions for first long end of flower.
Fifth Petal: Ch 12, sl st in 2nd chain from hook, sc in next ch, dc in ea of next 2 chains, dtr in ea of next 3 chains, dc in ea of next 2 chains, ch 3, sl st in ring.
Sixth Petal: Ch 11, sl st in 2nd chain from hook, sc in next ch, dc in ea of next 2 chains, dtr in ea of next 2 chains, dc in ea of next 2 chains, ch 3, sl st in ring.
To finish: End off, leaving a strand to weave in. Weave in the ends, to secure.
